The year of 2019 was revolutionary for technology. Trends
like cloud computing, artificial
intelligence, and big data have changed the way consumers and business use
technology. What does this mean going forward?
As we enter a new decade, one thing is guaranteed: technology will see another massive shift. While 2019 was filled with conversation about the Hybrid Cloud many businesses still use the public cloud. Deloitte predicts that going forward many businesses will move towards the hybrid cloud and place a higher importance on cloud security.
Artificial Intelligence, AI, is part of the future, but the future may be closer than we think. A survey from Gartner showed that in the year 2019 there are 37% of professionals using AI Bots.
Surveys and research from Forrester found that 53% of analytic decision makers on a global basis reported that they have either employed or plan to employ Artificial Intelligence in their business practices. By 2020, Forrester predicts that roughly 25% of Fortune 500 companies will integrated AI building blocks into their IPA projects.
Devices like Alexa and Siri are becoming a household norm and companies like Amazon and Alibaba are focusing more on artificial intelligence technologies to target customer personalization. Startups like Kindred, are targeting artificial intelligence in the e-commerce industry focusing on automation and supply chain by partnering with popular brands like Gap.
5G was introduced in 2019 but is expected to be part of the next generation experience for the upcoming decade. Qualcomm released a statement saying that its chips, both high and mid-range, will support standard 5G. T-Mobile also launched its nationwide 5G Network while companies like Verizon and AT&T are working towards device launches that will run on the 5G network.
While 5G has been on the forefront of it's debut for awhile now, AT&T marketing execs have said that "2020 is pivotal because you’ve got a good foundation built, and the ecosystem starts to form".
A study by Intel stated that 61% of consumers are eager for the potential that 5G holds in terms of speed and communication.
While the changes and technology trends in 2019 are measurable, what can consumers and businesses expect going forward?
While we can’t predict exactly what 2020 will hold, we can predict that there will be a shift in security, automation, and response. As technology advances the need for more secure practices increases along with it.
